Monday Update

Deadline getting closer.......
Stress getting higher.....
Sleep getting lower.....
But good progress over the weekend :)

All the work last week and the weekend went towards the experimental site, I did some design of things that would affect both, hopefully I can implement this so that we have a backup site for the use case.
  • Major updates
    • fixed the layout hell I had, wonder why css works so unituitive.. fixed for any resolution, no more rezising problems, resizing tables etc.
    • Added form generation on drop
    • Added toolbar disable when something is dropped
    • Added a cancel drop
    • Made the container for the history bar
    • Added some relationships between selected actions

At the moment I am working on making prettier :), adding decoration and tooltips with dummy text. Need to do some more design on how the flow of the site should work; I have 2 possibilities, handle everything using javascript and never change the page where I am standing or the opposite and just have a normal navigation.

Tomorro we have the presentation again hoping I can finish polishing all the details to have a basic flow going. Doubt we will have a result page yet but I will try to come up with something temporary.

Downtime

Quick notice, the two addresses for the FrontEnd are up and running at

However the services will not work since everyone is updating or working on the services, so at the moment no query will work and the site will just crash. I will take this oportunity to add some error message for the user when a service goes down since at them moment only a blank screen appears.

Tuesday Update

Hi Everyone

We had a bit of downtime since last week, but considering most of the services are down as well I dont feel so bad  :), nevertheless we are going back up with a lot of changes it seems. The big thing in this update is the new section for the "Web Flows"

To access the WebFlow section follow the link  http://helio.i4ds.technik.fhnw.ch:8080/Helio-dev/blog At the moment the only actions that can be taken are dragging something from the toolbar on the left and dropping it off on the main workspace, this will create a trail on the top representing a history or timeline of what you have done.

  • Major Changes
    • I am still experimenting with the user id, so for the moment ignore the box in the frontpage that claims to be a signup, it is working as intended but is not very useful for the user at the moment
    • Lots of learning went into jquery this and last week so finally we have the first iteration. Its rather rough at this point, mostly because of the nightmare that css can be, I need to dedicate some more time into studiying the best ways to do layouts since ours is getting bit complex.
    • At the moment this is a proof of concept where we can select items from the toolbar and drop them into our work area, this will cause the history to start tracking the user actions.

  • Next Step
    • Single Services
      • Had some discussions with andre and it seems that the single services will be more of a permanent feature so I expect changes to go here during this week.
    • Second Iteration
      • Clean up the css, add the forms to the drag and drop, add some flash to the fonts and colors.

Monday Update

Hi Everyone, this blog space will contain regular updates for the Helio-FrontEnd such as notices when it goes down and when it comes back up. If at any point your find bugs or problems when connecting, you can add a coment on the bottom and I will be checking them regularly.

For the moment I am adding today's updates to the site, was a pretty slow day dicussing design for the upcoming presentations and some meetings during the week regarding the feedback from last week's presentation.

Update 4/10/10

  • Minor Changes
    • Added a frame to the CS window when displaying results
    • Tweaked a bit the CS code to make it faster and support multiple requests(still need to test)
    • Made the links to the workflows more friendly to actually see they can be clicked
    • Fixed the problem with the single service selector not having memory of your previous selected service

  • Added Features
    • I want to push user spaces for the next release so in the spirit of agile devlopment I added a sign-in that asks for name only and preserves the name for the current session only.
    • Made a new section that will contain the continual query prototype we are working on with the design team (1 person team :D)
  • Visual Styles
    • I was growing tired of the navigation of the site so I am adding a new style to the menu bar in the hopes the desing looks as clean as possible.
